they're saying about the 52nd Chicago Book and Paper Fair, held on
October 5th, 2013:
"If you like browsing antiquarian bookstores, this is a can't miss
event - having so many sellers in one place is great!"
"Awesome! They had a good variety of books within everyone's price
range some were as low as $10 and as high as $15,000. The
booksellers were friendly and answered questions thoroughly."
"The fair was extremely well-organized, sellers helpful and
friendly, quality + variety of books excellent, location
easily accessible, and parking great."
"Interesting to see older vintage books, magazines. Hoped for
there to be more paper items such as advertising, stationery, etc.
Purchased some post cards from the 30's of Chicago landmarks. More
for book collectors."
"Great books, great people!!"
"My husband and I attended along with a guest from out of town. We
were not sure what to expect but were pleasantly surprised. We
were all very pleasantly surprised at the vast array of
offerings-from books to prints to old plat maps! Of course, one
has to have an interest in these things to begin with and we all
did. We did not allow ourselves enough time for all the booths.
The Bridgeport food truck was just what we needed—good food and
not the same old thing."

How do you become a member of the Midwest Antiquarian Booksellers Association, (MWABA), formerly known as Midwest Bookhunters?
The Midwest Antiquarian Booksellers Association, (MWABA) welcomes new members, but there is an application procedure.
You must be located in the Midwestern states, and be recommended by three current members of our organization who are somewhat familiar with your business. You may check our Online Membership Directory to find the names of our member/dealers.
Because the Board of MWABA only meets twice a year, the membership process sometimes takes a while to complete. In order to receive the benefits of membership, which include discounted booth fees and priority preference for member/exhibitors at our book fairs, submit your membership application as soon as possible.
For complete details, and to request a membership application, please contact our Membership Chair, Darlene Spohrer, of Autumn Leaves Books. Or you may download the application here.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much is my old book is worth?
Many different factors must be taken into account when appraising books. Edition is most important, but the presence or absence of a dust jacket is very important and also greatly affects the value of a book, as does the overall book condition.Very special or unique bindings, regardless of edition, are sometimes collectible. It is generally impossible to determine rarity or actual value of any item via email inquiry. In most cases it is necessary to see the actual book in order to make a valid assessment.
The Midwest Antiquarian Booksellers Association, (MWABA) is a non-profit organization of book dealers, and, as such, does not appraise, buy, or sell books, however many of our members would be qualified to assist you with your book needs.
Many of our members are qualified to do appraisals. Should you wish to contact one of them regarding your books, please search our Online Membership Directory or click on the 'DIRECTORY' link in the navigation bar on the left. Our members are located primarily in
the Midwestern states.
